Corsicana — Corsicana's new and bigger district  — 16-5A — left the Tigers with just three non-district games and for the first time in 24 years the Tigers will not be playing Waxahachie, a rival they have played 46 times since 1960.

Waxahachie will play Ellis County rival Ennis in the third week of the season. Corsicana had hoped to play both Ennis and Waxahachie, and will play the Lions who are now in 16-5A, but Corsicana was the odd man out in the three-way rivalry.

"We wanted to play Waxahachie,'' said Corsicana Coach Steve Hoffman. "It just didn't work out. We thought they might be in our district but we had them penciled in case they weren't. We wanted to play Ennis and Waxahachie, and the three of us talked about it, but we couldn't get them in the third game because Ennis and Waxahachie had scheduled to play each other in the fourth game and when Ennis (was put in 16-5A and had only three pre-district games) they moved their game with Waxahachie to the third game.

"It's hard (to make the schedule) because you don't know what's going to happen (when the new districts come out). All three of us wanted to play and we wanted to play Waxahachie. It just didn't work out.''

Then Hoffman, whose team was in a close game with Waxahachie last season when lightning canceled the game, added.

"We wanted to finish that game we had with them last year.”
