The Corsicana Lady Tigers are headed to playoffs — again.
Corsicana won a hard-fought, emotional match over Ennis on Friday night, winning 1-0 at Tiger Stadium. The victory clinched third place for the Lady Tigers in District 28-4A.
The Lady Tigers (11-5-6, 4-3-3) will play the winner of the Dallas Samuell-Dallas Kimball match in the area round of playoffs at a time, date and site to be determined.
Corsicana dominated possession but could not find a way to score throughout the match. The game was scoreless through the first half and much of the second half.
The Lady Tigers finally capitalized with four minutes left in the game on a free kick from 35 yards out. Brianna Roberts hit a very well placed ball over the goalkeeper’s hands into the net.
The goal continued Corsicana’s undefeated season at home.
Boys miss playoffs, still have successful season: The Tigers (9-9-2, 3-5-2) played a very solid first half into the wind against Ennis, with the match scoreless at halftime.
Ennis pushed the attack in the second half and scored the lone goal of the match two minutes in. It came on a corner kick in which the boys left a man open.
The Tigers continued to generate offense and pushed the Ennis goalkeeper to make many great saves. There were many opportunities that either hit the post or barely missed.
The JV Boys finished their season at home versus Ennis on Friday. The Tigers were able to play a tough Ennis team to a 2-2 tie.
The tie moves the JV team’s record to 11-2-4 for the year.
