GC Tennis: Corsicana easily beats rival Ennis

Corsicana — Corsicana’s team tennis squad beat one of its biggest rivals Tuesday at home, taking apart Ennis, 14-5.

“It was a long, hard fought match today,’’ Corsicana coach Chad White said. “We pulled out some good matches. Our players competed well and showed some fight inside them. They dealt with ups and downs of a match and pulled out the wins. I’m very proud of their effort.’’

Corsicana’s No. 1 boys doubles team of John Castan and Ben Crocker and Corsicana’s No. 2 boys doubles team of Tyler Schultz and Brandon Levenson both won. Crocker won at No. 3 singles, Levenson won at No. 4, and Jacob Middleton won at No. 5.

The Tigers’ No. 1 girls doubles of Maggie Phinney and Caroline Kennemore won and the No. 3 girls doubles team of Chelsea Vandiver and Cecilia Hernandez won.

The Corsicana girls swept all six singles matches against Ennis. Phinney won at No. 1, Kennemore won at No. 2, Melany Bentancourt won at No. 3, Hernandez won at No. 4, Ellen Yates won at No. 5 and Michelle Cho won at No. 6.

Corsicana’s mixed doubles team of Middleton and Yates also won.
