Blooming Grove whips Rio Vista, 56-15, clinches playoff spot

RIO VISTA — Rio Vista scored on its opening drive Friday night but Blooming Grove responded with 35 unanswered points in the first half and never looked back as the Lions blew out the Eagles, 56-15.

Blooming Grove's victory combined with Mildred and Tolar wins secured a playoff berth for the Lions, who are now 5-4 on the season.

The senior backfield duo of Tyler Morris and Travis Whiteside sparked the Lions in the first half. Morris scored on runs of 25, 4 and 56 yards, respectively, while Whiteside crossed the goal line on runs of 12 and 56 yards.

Quarterback Tyler Ellis teamed with Dalton Blake for two touchdown passes in the second half. The first was a 20-yard pass and the second a 37-yard scoring strike. Brandon Hays also scored on a 5-yard run.

Dalton McCarter and Keller Southard each had a fumble recovery to spark the Lions' defense and Dylan Newland had an interception. Bradley Cravens recovered an on-sides kick for BG.
