FERRIS — For the second time in three weeks, it came down to a goal line stand in the final minute for the Rice Bulldogs.  This time, the Rice defense held, and the Bulldogs edged Life Oak Cliff, 15-13, the end the 2013 season for both teams.

After last year’s offensive explosion, the defenses dominated the first three quarters.  But, Chris Atchley scored twice in the fourth quarter to rally the Bulldogs, who trailed 13-0 early in the quarter.  Atchley finished the night with 152 yards of total offense.

After Atchely’s second score, the Lions took over with 5:34 remaining and drove the length of the field to the Bulldog one-yard line.  The Bulldog defense held and forced a field goal attempt with two seconds remaining.  The attempt was missed, but the Lions were given a second chance on a Bulldog offsides penalty.  This attempt, with no time remaining, was blocked by Rice’s Dylynn Anderson to preserve the Bulldog victory.

Rice ends the season at 4-6 for the third consecutive season, finishing District 6-2A DII with a 3-4 record and just out of a playoff spot.  Life Oak Cliff finishes at 2-8, 2-5.
