Kerens stayed unbeaten with a win against Malakoff on Friday, 26-24-19-25, 26-24, 25-13.
Coach Kristen Lynch said in a text to the Daily Sun that, “We started off slow and just couldn’t get into a rhythm. We just seemed to be going through the motions, but a win is a win. We have to pick up the intensity to be where we need to be.’’
Breanna Baxter served 14 points and Hannah Hall had 10 kills, seven blocks and two aces to help lead the way. Tinesha Tolliver had 15-of-16 serving with five aces and two kills and a block, Cambree Betts had two assists and a kill, Taylor Ames was 16-of-20 serving with an ace, three blocks and 18 assists to set up her teammates, and Kayla Kilcrease had five digs.
Wortham stayed unbeaten with a 25-23, 25-18, 25-12 win against Mildred, which is laying without three of its starters.
Wortham was led defensively by Elisha Libhart, Katie Looney and Sara Sessions. Kierra Busby led the team in serving and Kendle Rhodes, led Wortham in assists. Ashley Anderson, Libhart and Busby led the team in kills.
Blooming Grove came back to beat Italy, 22-25, 25-19, 25-14 25-14 on Friday night. Sidney Horner and Allie Jordan had five kills each, and Steely Southard had a big game with four kills, two aces, six blocks and two digs. Falcon Thompson had 13 assists and an ace, Joyce Ramirez had four kills and an ace, Mandie Shankie had three kills, seven assists and two digs and Rachel East had 91 percent passing and had two blocks and a kill.
