NC Football: Navarro moves to No. 2 in nation

Corsicana — Navarro College moved up from No. 3 to No. 2 in the NJCAA  national football poll, which was released Tuesday.

Mississippi Gulf Coast, which was the preseaon choice at No. 1, stays the top-ranked team in the poll.

Navarro is 2-0 and coming off an impressive 41-16 victory over previously No. 6 Hutchinson on the road in Kansas..

“It puts us in a good place in the long run,’’ Navarro coach Brian Mayper said. “But it’s good and bad. It puts a mark on you so everyone wants to beat you. But I would rather be No. 2 than last.’’

Mayper said the important thing is for his team to stay humble and hungry.

“I heard a great quote from Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater this week. He said, ‘Be humble and chase crumbs,’ ’’ Mayper said.

“That’s what we neeed to do. We need to stay humble and stay hungry.’’
