GC Hoops Weekend Roundup: Lady Jags host, win tournament

Mildred girls open 23-2A action with win

Corsicana — Nakaila Banks scored 17 points and Tia Parks added 15 as Hubbard topped Bosqueville 57-36 to win the Hubbard Tournament. Banks, Tia Parks and Jasmine Parks were named to the all-tournament team.

Mildred 61, Marlin 15: The Mildred Lady Eagles opened up district play with a 61-15 thumping of the visiting Marlin Lady Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.

Marlin had no answer for Mildred’s inside play led by Savannah Pritchett with 14 points and Shelby Adamson with 13. Raeleigh Bottoms added six points and Lauren Glidewell added four for the Lady Eagles.

Defensively for the Eagles, Olivia Farmer and Maddie Moore made it difficult for the Lady Bulldogs throughout the game. The duo combined for 10 steals and caused numerous turnovers with their constant pressure. Moore scored 12 points and had three assists while Farmer chipped in 10 points to go along with five assists.

Teague 87, Rice 37: Celina Smithers had points but Rice lost to Teague 87-37 in 23-2A district play.

Frost 45, Penelope 14: The No. 10-ranked Frost Lady Polar Bears ran their record to 14-0 on Friday, beating Penelope 45-14. Kadee Bowling led the way for the Lady Polar Bears with 13 points.

Kerens 48, Mabank 36: Taylor Ames scored 20 points as No. 2 Kerens knocked off Mabank 48-36 on Friday.

Marlin 60, Hubbard 59:
Casey Jones scored 15 points, but Hubbard lost a tough one in the championship game of its own tournament, falling to Marlin 60-59.

Wills Point 68, Kerens 65: Tobyus Thomas scored 19 points as Kerens lost to Wills Point 68-65.

Wortham 59, First Baptist 46: Tyvon Freeman scored 22 points as Wortham topped First Baptist 59-46 to win for the fourth time in five games.
