GC Basketball: Weekend Roundup: BG boys beat Rice in OT, Kerens boys win easily, Mildred, Kerens, Hubbard, BG girls win, Frost gets forfeit


Corsicana —     Shelby Adamson and Maddie Murrell both turned in double doubles

with Adamson scoring 14 points and bringing down 17 rebounds, while Murrell dropped in 10 points and had 11 boards. Allison

Hierholzer had a big game, scoring 12 points and pulling down seven offensive rebounds. Maddie Moore had 12 points and seven assists and Bland inished with five points.

    Mildred is now 3-1 in the district race.



Kerens 61, Cayuga 46

The LadyCats opened District 18-1A D-I play on the road with a convincing win over Cayuga as they led from start to finish, outscoring Cayuga 24-11 in the first quarter before taking a 38-20 lead into halftime.

Beanna Baxter scored 22 points and Cambree Betts dropped in 13 for Kerens. Taylor Ames and Marqueshia Kelly each scored 11 points and Emmanuella Armant (2) and Kiara Lindsey (2) also scored for the Lady Cats.



Wortham 48, Cross Roads 22

The Lady Bulldogs opened District 18-1A D-I play with a romp over Cross Roads on Friday night.

Sara Sessions led the way with 13 points and Courtney Chasteen (10), Kierra Busby (9), Kamarie Freeman (6), Elisha Libhart (5), Kameron Rhodes (3), Kendle Rhodes (2) all scored for Wortham, which is now the 14-4 overall.


Hubbard 80, Dawson 35

    The Lady Jags opened District 18-1A DI play with a convincing win as four players had double figures for Hubbard. Nakaila Banks led the way with 19 points and Tysheunna Hawthorne scored 17 while Jasmine Parks dropped in 13 and Tia Parks scored 12.  Kate Suacke had nine points for Hubbard, which is now 15-1 and 1-0 in district. Shayla Parks (4), Baylour Lewis (4) and Jamie Goodpaster (2) also scored for the Lady Jags.

    Stephanie Lindsey led Dawson with nine points. Jalyn Miller (7) Kaylee Martinez (4) and Courtney Warren (4) also scored for the Lady Bulldogs, who  are now 5-10 and 0-1 in district play.



Blooming Grove 62 Rice 33
  Hannah Southard led the way for the Lady Lions with 21 points and Tre Wiggins followed with nine. Brittany Nichols Lauren Miller and Amy Curtis scored six points each for Blooming Grove, and Sydney Horner (4), Kate Haden (3) and Erin Plyer (2) also scored for the Lady Lions.
  Samantha Harris and Branisha Connor led Rice with eight points each and Sadie Gent followed with six. Olivia Zellar (4), MacKenzie Smiley (4), Kassidy Blake (2) and Ashton Metcalfe (1) also scored for Rice.

    Frost gets forfeit

    The Frost Lady Bears stayed perfect at 5-0 in District 19-1A DII on Friday, picking up a forfeit win from Bynum, which didn’t have enough healthy players. The Lady Bears are now 14-2 for the season.

    Kaylana, a Corsicana native, picked up fans from all over the country and many bought Bebop T-shirts to help pay her expenses to Spokane, Wa., where she won the 8-and-under title in the double-mini trampoline event and finished third in floor exercise.
    More than 100 of her friends, family members and fans showed up at the Corsicana YMCA on Saturday to celebrate the national title and be on hand for a drawing for an autographed New Orleans Saints football jersey from David Hawthorne, a star defensive lineman for the Saints and Kaylana's uncle
