Calae Wilson and Erica Melendez each made two key free throws late and Briana Biltz had a key basket as the Lady Tigers pulled away for a 44-36 victory over Forney on Tuesday night at Tiger Gym.
The Lady Tigers (7-4) won their fifth straight game, this one a grind-it-out win over a tough opponent in Forney.
“We played hard enough to win, we made plays that counted late,” Lady Tigers coach Art Prevost said. “I was most impressed with our late-game execution. We are still a young team that is growing every day. Big shout out to our teachers that came out tonight for Teacher Appreciation Night.”
Corsicana scored the final six points of the game after Forney cut a 38-29 deficit to two points with a 7-0 run. Forney’s Krista Williams scored nine of her 14 points in the fourth quarter.
Wilson, who had 15 points, drove and earned a trip to the line and made 1 of 2 free throws to make it 39-36 with 1:29 left. Biltz followed with an offensive rebound and bucket. Wilson made a free throw and Melendez two for the final points.
Corsicana led 17-6 after the first quarter, but Forney battled back.
