GC Hoops Roundup: Thomas stays hot for Cats

Forward scores 24 as Kerens boys top Venus

Tobyus Thomas continued his hot shooting with 24 points as Kerens won its second straight game to start the season with a 64-41 win over Venus in their opening game of the Italy Tournament.

Methodist Christian Academy 47, Wortham 40: Brysen Rhodes scored 18 points, but a poor second quarter doomed Wortham in a 47-40 loss to Methodist Christian Academy in Thursday’s opening game at the Coolidge Tournament.

Leon 46, Rice 44 (OT): Daniel Arteaga and Dalton Pike scored 12 points, but Rice fell in overtime 46-44 to Leon on Thursday in the opener of the Avalon Tournament.


Kerens 60, Red Oak Life 20:
Taylor Ames scored 20 points as the LadyCats rolled over Red Oak Life in the opening game of the Scurry-Rosser Tournament. Kerens (4-1) also had 10 points from Emmanuella Armant.

Frost 52, Rice 24: Kadee Bowling scored 12 points and Diana Rios added 11 as No. 14 Frost topped Rice 52-24 in their opening game of the Avalon Tournament on Thursday.

Axtell 39, Dawson 28: Kaylee Martinez led Dawson with 13 points and six steals in an opening-round loss at Bruceville-Eddy Tournament.

Jalyn Miller scored 11 with five rebounds and three steals. Michaela Greer added five points, 11 rebounds and seven steals. Stephanie Lindsey had three points and two steals.

Mildred 48, Quinlan Boles 10: Olivia Farmer had 20 points and Maddie Moore added 10 as the Lady Eagles rolled at the Eustace Tournament.

    Kaylana, a Corsicana native, picked up fans from all over the country and many bought Bebop T-shirts to help pay her expenses to Spokane, Wa., where she won the 8-and-under title in the double-mini trampoline event and finished third in floor exercise.
    More than 100 of her friends, family members and fans showed up at the Corsicana YMCA on Saturday to celebrate the national title and be on hand for a drawing for an autographed New Orleans Saints football jersey from David Hawthorne, a star defensive lineman for the Saints and Kaylana's uncle
