The Corsicana Tigers soccer teams played themselves right into the middle of their respective playoff races with inspiring wins over Red Oak on Friday night at Tiger Stadium.
The boys beat Red Oak for their eighth win of the season. Corsicana (8-6-2, 2-2) moved into third place in 28-4A, a game behind second-place Ennis, which the Tigers will host on Tuesday night at Tiger Stadium.
David Cruz scored with 10 minutes left in the first half on a set piece from 40 yards out for a 1-0 lead. Michael Roman scored the second goal with 15 minutes left. Alan Aceves had 14 saves.
The girls also topped Red Oak, 3-0, defeating a Lady Hawks team that had lost twice all season. Corsicana scored the first three goals Red Oak has allowed in district. Goalkeeper Elida Hinojosa had 10 saves.
Makenzi Taylor scored two goals for the Tigers, the first seven minutes into the game from 15 yards outs. She beat the Red Oak goalkeeper one-and-one with 12 minutes left in the first half for a 2-0 lead.
Elizabeth Castaneda capped the scoring for the Lady Tigers with a goal with 10 minutes left in the game.
The Lady Tigers (9-3-4, 2-1-1) are two points behind second-place Red Oak in the district standings. They’ll also play Ennis on Tuesday night.
