GC Track & Field: Frost girls, boys win district titles
Frosts' girls and boys teams both won District 19-1A track & field team titles as the Lady Polar Bears ran away from the field with 209 points and the boys won the title with 137 points.
The Lady Polar Bears, who had never won a district track & field title until last year, outscored the next three teams combined. Abbott was second in the eight team-field with 75 points.
CHS Tennis: Tigers sweep District 16-4A titles
Corsicana dominated the District 16-4A tennis tournament over the weekend, winning the boys and girls district team championship and will send five players to the Class 4A regional tournament next Monday and Tuesday at UT-Arlington.
Navarro Softball: Bulldogs sweep Trinity Valley
She had been mobbed and hugged and even lifted off her feet, and now Navarro’s Kristin Lopez was looking for words to describe her biggest hit of the year.
“It wasn’t pretty, but it worked,’’ she said.
It was pretty enough, this soft blooper that found the grass in left field, a ball that wasn’t hit hard enough to hurt anyone’s feelings but just hard enough to lift Navarro to a 5-4 win over Trinity Valley in the bottom of the 10th Saturday afternoon to complete a doubleheader sweep over TVCC.
GC Baseball: Mildred downs Rice 8-1, Kerens rips Cross Roads 12-0
Collin Linex went 3 for 3 with two runs and pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing an unearned run as Mildred beat Rice 8-1 Friday to move to 4-3 in District 23-2A. Linex was lifted in the seventh after 93 pitches, scattering five hits, fanning two, walking three and hitting a batter.
GC Softball: Roundup — Corsicana takes care of Jacksonville 8-1; Frost wins in rout
The Corsicana Tigers traveled to Jacksonville to the second round of District 16-4A play and came away with an 8-1 win to improve to 5-2 in the district race as Sidney Kirk belted a solo homer and starting pitcher Chelsea Vandiver went the distance to get the win.
Girls 4A Soccer Sectional Playoff: Waxahachie holds off Corsicana 3-0
They walked off the field hand-in-hand, heads high, together to the end.The Corsicana fans were on their feet one last time, giving them a standing ovation — as much for the game they had just played as the season they were leaving behind.
That's how it ended for Corsicana's girls soccer team, a tough, gritty, no-quit group that saw its season end at Lions Stadium in Ennis Friday night in a 3-0 loss to Waxahachie in the sectional round of the 4A playoffs..
