Daily Sun looking for help with Friday night football coverage
Do you like high school football and want to make extra money? The Daily Sun may have a gig for you. We’re looking for a handful of people to cover local high school football teams in the fall.
Outdoors: Kevin Reese — Tactical hunting: Sir, Yes Sir!
My pop once told me I might fit into my dress blues if I used bungee cords; the truth hurts. Looking at me it’s hard to believe I spent eight years in the Marines.
In all honestly, I’m not that bad off… I’m just not that well off; I could stand a few months of nonstop treadmill work.
Beyond reminiscing about my life as a Marine and wishing I still looked the part, I miss many aspects of active duty life – chief among them being camaraderie and my trusty M-16 A2 Service Rifle.
CHS Football: Tigers aim high in 7-on-7 football
It's only their second season of summer football, but for the Corsicana Tigers, everything is about the same thing: Improving.
No one knows that better than Tiger quarterback Kishawn Kelly, a fresh face and fresh arm who takes over this fall as a sophomore.
Morgan: You never know who might be offended by a team mascot
The U.S. Patent office has voided the Washington Redskins’ trademark on the name Redskins.
Obviously, Congress is an outdated, useless institution since they seem to be bypassed every other day.
The patent office tried this in 1999, but the Washington entry in the NFL sued in federal court and won. They expect to do so again.
However, if the patent office action is upheld, then all sorts of team mascots could be in danger. Lots of them could be offensive to someone.
GC Baseball: Kerens' Anderson, Warren named to THSBCA 1A All-State team
Kerens' senior pitcher and outfielder Brett Anderson was named to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association's Class-1A All-State baseball team, and Kerens' outfielder Brent Warren made the third team.
Green Machine: Kerens’ Betts, Baxter prove to be extraordinary
They share so much — desire and drive and the love of sports, green and white jerseys, a passion to succeed, pride in their school, their town and the teams they play for — even their numbers, 23 and 24, run in sequence for Kerens' Nate Betts and Breanna Baxter, who have known each other their entire lives. And now they share this: Betts and Baxter are the Community National Bank and Trust All-Golden Circle Athletes of the Year.
Challenger League Series: A Joyous Day
That's what gets you.
And it gets you every time.
If you could take a picture of joy — pure, honest, sweet joy — it would be here on the Kerens softball field every June when the Central Texas Challenger League Series takes place.
CHS Football: Tigers have tough day in 7-on-7 round robin
It's an ambitious schedule, one that promises to push Corsicana's Tigers, who find themselves playing DeSoto, Dallas Carter and Waxahachie in 7-on-7 football this summer.
On Tuesday, the Tigers hosted the other three teams in a round robin set of three 30-minute games, and had trouble with DeSoto, one of the best Class 6A programs in Texas, and Dallas Carter, a powerhouse in 5A, before battling in a tough 2-1 loss to 5A rival Waxahachie.
DeSoto won 5-1 and Carter beat the Tigers 5-2 at Tiger Stadium, where Corsicana Coach Steve Hoffman liked some of the things he saw but was upset with the way his kids competed.
Texas Football magazine preseason picks: Hubbard ranked 15th in 2A state poll, BG picked to win district
Texas Football has arrived.
In more ways than one.
The first glimpse into the 2014 season arrived Tuesday when Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine showed up to unofficially kick off the new year in football in the Lone Star State.
The magazine, which previews the NFL, college football and every high school football team in Texas has Hubbard ranked No. 15 in the Class 2A DII state poll and is picking Blooming Grove to win the newly formed District 9-3A DII title.
World Cup Soccer: USA scores early, late, beats Ghana, 2-1
Clint Dempsey scored in the first minute and rookie substitute John Brooks scored a late game winner as the U.S. defeated Ghana 2-1 Monday in the World Cup opener for both.
