Kent/Martinez Wedding

Marcy Kathleen Kent and Javier Martinez were united in marriage in a double ring ceremony Sept. 6, 2009. The garden ceremony was held at Chateau on the Creek in Round Rock. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kent of Kerens and Mr. and Mrs. Leonardo Martinez of Houston. Grandparents of the bride are Mrs. Mary Kent and Mr. Jack Manning of Kerens.

Officiating the ceremony was the Rev. James Francovich, close personal friend of the couple. On her father’s arm, the bride descended from the Chateau down graduated steps and along the bordered path to a white gazebo under century old oaks. An arrangement of white and mango roses framed the entrance steps to the altar area. Violin soloist and University of Texas student, Peter Schulte, accompanied the bride as she approached her groom. He also accompanied soloist Angie Wagner as she sang “Reign In Me” during the closing prayer. Music for the evening was provided by UT students Bruce Jeffers, John Belew and Peter Schulte.

Marcy’s bridal gown was a strapless sheath of satin and organza embellished with Swarovski crystals and seed pearls. The cathedral train pleated at the waistline and fell gracefully. She carried a bouquet of white and mango roses intertwined with antique lace, teal and silver ribbons.

Attendants for the couple were maid of honor Misti Turck of Portland, Oregon and bridesmaid Natalie Stary of Brownsville. Both friends were mission partners with Marcy during the years. Each wore strapless teal sheath gowns of organza and carried bouquets that matched the brides. Flower girl was Tiffany Kent, niece of the bride, wearing a white slipper gown with teal satin bows. Best man was Chad Kent, close friend of the groom and brother of the bride from Buffalo, and groomsman was Tom Nicholson of Portland, Oregon. The ring bearer was Briar Kent, nephew of the bride, wearing a teal vest over white tuxedo shirt and black slacks. The groom and groomsmen wore black tuxedoes with silver vests.

A dinner and reception for the couple was held at the Chateau immediately following the ceremony. Moe Bomer, BSM director at UT was the master of ceremonies and introduced the newlyweds as they entered the reception area. While dining, the guests enjoyed hearing personal stories about the couple from family, coworkers and long time friends in attendance. The couple left for a honeymoon at the Horseshoe Bay Resort.

Marcy began doing summer missions work for the Baptist General Convention of Texas during college at Hardin-Simmons University. Following college and while teaching in Farmersville, she continued working with Go Now Missions leading college students on summer mission trips to Taiwan, Malaysia, Canada, India and Africa. She is the Associate Baptist Student Ministries director at the University of Texas in Austin. Javier, a native of Honduras and a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in New Orleans, began his career working for Southwest Airlines while in college at LSU, and continued with the company following college working in New Orleans, Miami and Austin.

Weekend wedding festivities included a rehearsal dinner at Johnny Carinos in Round Rock, a wedding day brunch for the bride and wedding guests hosted by former roommates, and a groom’s fiesta breakfast hosted by the Rev. Francovich. The couple are at home in Austin.
