Powers-Richardson Wedding

Corsicana —     Candace Michelle Powers and James Hickok Richardson were united in marriage at 7 p.m. July 17, at First Baptist Church in Corsicana. A reception followed at the Corsicana Country Club. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Powers of Corsicana and the granddaughter of the late Charles Kirkland and Wanda Elder of Houston, and Paul and Frances Powers of Eagle Lake. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Richardson of Dallas. He is the grandson of Herbert Nelson Hickok, Jr., of Houston and Mrs. Ethelyne Marguerite Burns Richardson of Dallas.

The couple exchanged vows under an arbor covered with moss and adorned with magnificent chandeliers filled with taper candles. The center aisle was dressed with beautiful draped cream and champagne fabrics enhanced with beaded crystals. Lining the aisle for the bride’s entrance was an exquisite, hand painted aisle runner with gold embellishment and the couples’ monogram. Dr. Mark Young of Colorado officiated the ceremony. Music for the ceremony was provided by James Kimmel, organist of Dallas, and vocalist Brady Davis of Austin. The bride entered on the arm of her father to the accompaniment of Clarke’s “Trumpet Voluntary.” She carried a bouquet of pink peonies, white roses, white hydrangeas, and miniature pink roses.

For her wedding the bride chose a formal gown of ivory lace by Watters. The strapless fitted bodice was covered in re-embroidered lace, ruched with silk taffeta wrapped around waist of the gown. The skirt was sprinkled with taffeta rolled flowers, cascading down with small to large flowers. The flowers flared at the hip line, spraying out with a flourish. The dress train, also embellished with flowers finished the gown, creating an old world style. To complete her ensemble the bride wore an elegant fingertip tulle veil.

The Matron of Honor was Kristen Powers Aune, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Leslie Tipping Pierce of Rockwall, Ellen Campbell of Dallas, Caroline Harper Knapp of New York, Anna Richardson of Frisco, Sarah Richardson of Dallas, Karis Hopf of San Antonio, Laura Bingelli Gandy of California, Amanda Ryza of Corsicana, Lacy Wade of Fort Worth, and Brittany Wier of Austin. The attendants wore floor length dresses  designed by Bari Jay made of black silk organza that flowed from an empire waist. The dresses were adorned with organza rosette flowers that cascaded over one shoulder. They carried hand tied bouquets with flowers echoing the bride’s bouquet. The flower girl and ring bearer were cousins of the bride, Elliette and Colten Stewart of Corsicana. Elliette wore a tealength satin tutu made of cream tulle and satin which coordinated with a top layered with ruffles of tulle. She carried a flower ball of pink roses and cream hydrangeas. Colten oufitted in a tuxedo carried a white satin pillow adorned with champagne taffeta and beaded pearl roses.

The groom was attended by best men, Evan Furman and Edward Lopez of Austin. Groomsmen were Jonathan Richardson of Austin, Josh Richardson of Austin, Jordan Richardson of Dallas, Jeremy Powers of Dallas, Daniel Bowen of Dallas, Colby Green of Dallas, David Hall of Dallas, Austin Littrell of Nashville, Benjamin Young of Dallas, and Weston Woodward of Austin. Serving as ushers were Jason Aune of Frisco, Sam Lubinsky of Dallas, Brandon Smith of Austin, and Luke Wood of Dallas.

Following the ceremony the reception was held at the Corsicana Country Club. The sidewalk was adorned by a crystal chandelier and flanked by hurricane vases with candles. A cascade of flower petals lead the way to the entrance. Inside the tables were draped with gold damask table cloths. Each table displayed crystal candelabras and votive candles. A lavish buffet was provided for the guests.

The bride’s cake was a multi-tiered champagne flavored wedding cake. Each layer was intricately decorated with its own unique artistry. The wedding cake was embellished with sparkling champagne bows with vintage crystal brooches in the center of each bow.  The groom’s cake was a multi-tiered banana cake with a chocolate ganache filling and chocolate fudge icing. The cake was topped with a three foot replica of the University of Texas Tower with the number one lit inside the tower.

Members of the house party were Andrea Green Low of Houston, Katie Johnson of Dallas, Megan Thomas of Dallas, and Sarah Haas of Houston.

The newly wedded couple departed through a shower of sparklers for a honeymoon in Saint Lucia. Candace is employed with Austin City Realty, and James is employed by the Curtis Grimes Band and Austin Ridge Bible Church.

On the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Richardson. Hamilton Ranch provided a wonderful venue for a fun filled evening which included dinner catered by Uncle Julio’s of Dallas and featured live music provided by the Curtis Grimes Band.
