Navarro head baseball coach Skip Johnson has accepted a position as the new pitching coach for the University of Texas in Austin today, Navarro College announced in a release.

Navarro also announced it will officially begin the search for a new head baseball coach immediately.

“Skip Johnson has done an outstanding job as the head baseball coach at Navarro College. The Navarro College Board of Trustees wishes him and his family the very best,” said Navarro president Dr. Richard Sanchez in the release.

Navarro athletic director Roark Montgomery will assume the responsibilities of the head coach, as well as Whoa Dill, assistant baseball coach at Navarro.

“This is a great opportunity for Skip. We wish him and his family the very best. While Skip will be greatly missed, it will be our mission to find someone who can continue the tradition and success of our baseball program,” Montgomery said.

Sanchez added that he hopes to fill the open position by the first week in September.

Johnson has been at Navarro College for the past 15 years.
