A familiar corporate name will be joining the Interstate 45/South U.S. Highway 287 corridor this fall.

Motel 6 will officially join the Corsicana lodging facility family when renovations are complete on the former Days Inn Motel, a project taken on by the son of the owners of the Days Inn franchise.

“We hope to have our remodel complete sometime in September,” Roe Patel, the facility’s new owner told the Daily Sun.

All of the hotel’s rooms are being remodeled in the Motel 6 motif, which features economy accommodations nationwide.

“Our room rates will be less than half of what you would pay at a Holiday Inn,” Patel said.

The site will feature 110 guest rooms, according to Patel. He is also constructing a new office and indoor swimming pool which will face Interstate 45, and making improvements to landscape and parking facilities.

“Our two bed rooms will have queen beds, and single bed rooms will have king beds. We’re putting in all new bathroom and shower facilities with tile floors,” he added.

“Motel 6 is one of the few major hotel/motel chains that still owns and operates facilities itself as well as franchising,” Patel said. “It’s a good company to work with.”

Patel relocated to Corsicana from New Mexico, where he also operated a motel property. He sold that business to concentrate on remodeling the Corsicana property.

“I purchased this property from my parents. I am their retirement plan,” Patel said with a smile. He also owns the adjacent property to the motel site, where Catfish King Restaurant was located. He has no immediate plans for that property.

“With the industry that is here, Corsicana can use this property. There are several other motels here, including some high-end and independents. We will be the only one of its kind here,” Patel said.
