Last week 200 women gathered to support the United Way of Navarro County and attend Designer Bag Bingo! For the third consecutive year, Community National Bank was the headline sponsor. The all-in-good-fun event combines ladies night and the chance to take home a new handbag, all while raising money for a good cause.
The compacted dining room at the Corsicana Country Club fell silent as they concentrated on filling the squares on the flimsy newsprint cards in front of them. The only sound was the voice of the caller intoning number after number.
The sound of a woman shattering the silence sent collective groans throughout the room. BINGO Women sighed, laughed, wadded up their losing cards and returned to their table chats in delight.
Ladies daubed their way through 10 games, with the lucky winners being able take home handbags in an array of styles from totes, cross body’s, backpacks, and bucket purses from prestige names like Tory Burch, Marc Jacobs, Kate Spade, Rebecca Minkoff, All Saints, and of course, the coveted Louis Vuitton purse
Attendees played nine games for handbags, one black out bingo game for the Louis Vuitton. A surprise Louis Vuitton raffle at the previous year’s event called for an encore; the returning raffle proved to be a fun finale to the night
For the third year in a row, local boutique, Cotton Kisses, donated highly sought-after door prizes, and a new sponsor, The Lash House Boutique, contributed an assortment of door prizes that pleased the crowd almost as much as having a BINGO
What do you get when you combine this classic game with ladies night and handbags?” said Cara Wilson, Executive Director. “A unique fundraiser that practically sells out before it is advertise. United Way will be distributing a record high amount to local agencies in 2020. Partnering with the community to support our 12 partner agencies is the purpose behind the event, and the real winners are those seeking help from United Way-supported programs. ”
The United Way would like to thank its committee volunteers, Jordan Golden, Cody Beauchamp, Carol Thomson, Lori Haynie, Tina Allen, Jesse DeLeon, Larry Ball, Josh Tacket, Les Leskoven, and Michelle Yates along with everyone who came, bought a table, and sponsored the event! United Way looks forward to hosting its fourth annual Bag Bingo in the fall of 2020.
