Bealls has been a staple of the Corsicana shopping community for over 50 years, and is the last of the “original run” stores from College Park Mall's opening in 1983. But things are set to change for the department store. Stage Stores, the parent company that acquired Bealls, announced plans Sept. 17 2019 to convert all of its department store locations into Gordmans stores by the end of 2020.
Gordmans is known as an off price retailer, similar in format to a TJ Maxx, Marshall's, or HomeGoods, selling brand and similar label merchandise at a discount.
The Bealls at College Park Mall has already entered its closing sale phase, with discounts presently 40% at the time of this report. While the department store is closing next year, shoppers will still find familiarity when they enter the new Gordmans.
While no opening date has been set, Gordmans will open sometime in 2020. Once Bealls closes down, there will be an eight day transition period of changing out signage to reflect the new retailer before Gordmans opens to the public.
The former Bealls staff will be able to continue on with the company, and work as Gordmans employees. Additionally, shoppers who currently have a Bealls credit card will be able to continue using their card for purchases at the new store.
For those curious as to what the new Gordman's shopping experience will be like, the Ennis Gordmans will be opening by the end of this year in its former Bealls location, giving a look at the store's new format.
According to BusinessWire, Stage Stores plans to begin convert its remaining department stores in February of 2020, and will have approximately 700 Gordmans locations by the end of 2020.
