Corsicana Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire around 7 p.m. Monday night in the 700 block of W. Sixth Ave.
At first firefighters saw nothing on arrival, but soon located the fire in the upstairs kitchen.
While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Chief Paul Henley reported that the home was unoccupied at the time and the fire was quickly contained, resulting in no injuries and minimal loss of property.
“It was a pretty smooth operation on our side of things,” said Henley. “C Shift and Capt. Brad Roughton got a really good stop on it.”
No doubt firefighters' quick actions prevented further incident as the two-story home was described as a balloon frame structure with spaces between ceilings and floors interconnected to the wall cavities, which can allow fire to spread quickly, increasing the possibility of structural failure.
