Over the weekend, a large glass pane broke free from a display window in the old J. M. Dyer building, located at 124 W. Collin St.
Video surveillance footage from the neighboring CrossFit Corsicana captured the sound of the window breaking, then collapsing around 11:50 a.m. Sunday morning on the N. Main St. side of the building. The frame of the window was found warped outward.
The privately-owned Dyer building, once a popular department store in Downtown Corsicana, has been unoccupied for several years, falling into disrepair. The City of Corsicana had been notified of the breakage and glass shards, removing the debris by 1:15 p.m. Monday.
According the Corsicana Main Street Facebook page, Code Compliance is also actively working the case, and the City is working with a contractor to prevent the remaining windows from posing a hazard to residents, their pets, and visitors to downtown.
There have been no reports of vandalism or weather damage.
