The Navarro County Grand Jury met for May and returned 67 indictments against 56 individuals.

Former Mildred High School teacher Patrick James Navin, 66, was indicted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was arrested Friday, April 5 after he allegedly cut one of his students the day before with a pair of scissors.

Chad Lee Payne, 34, was indicated for arson. He was arrested arrested March 12 for setting a pasture on fire in the 8000 block of NW CR 1300. According to the Navarro County Sheriff's Office, a witness reported seeing Payne set that pasture on fire and called 911. The fire burned a quarter acre before the Emhouse Volunteer Fire Department put it out.

Clifton Ray Goines, 70, was indicted on two counts of theft of cattle/horse/exotic livestock. He was arrested March 27 after an investigation of several reported missing animals in the Kerens area. Two of the stolen horses were located outside the county and were reunited with owners.

Saul Sanchez-Carrizales, 31, was indicted for manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance under 400 grams. He was arrested March 13 in Rice for a quarter-million dollars of deadly China white heroin following a traffic stop.

Elizabeth Ann Vasquez was indicted for aggravated assault with a weapon to a family member. She was arrested March 18 after two Navarro County Sheriff Office deputies saw her run over her fiance twice on FM Market Road 1126 and 1839 in Emhouse. Her fiance didn't sustain any major injuries.

• Lessie J. Ellison, IV, possession of a controlled substance over one gram but under four grams in a drug free zone and tampering with physical evidence with intent to impair.
