H-E-B's new curbside service has officially launched, ushering in a new era of local customer service for the retail chain.

Store Director Mike Fletcher gave a tour of the new department Friday morning before its debut, showing off the rows of carts that hold dry and cold foods, and two coolers. The new department will be maintained by Curbside Manager Ashley O'Pry.

The grand opening for the curbside service included Corsicana Mayor Don Denbow, Council member Pct. 1 Susan Hale, Regional Merchant for Curbside Michael Cavazos, and members of the Corsicana and Navarro County Chamber of Commerce. Corsicana's curbside service debut marked the 175th for the company.

The service is simple and accessible for customers. By using the H-E-B app or going to www.heb.com/curbside, customers can place their full grocery order. Once submitted, H-E-B employees will do the shopping, with an employee for every department filling orders.

“We're providing one more way for customers to shop by being the best omni-channel retailer,” Cavazos said.

Once the order is complete, the groceries are set up and ready for pickup. When customers pull into the designated parking areas, they text the store which parking space they are in, and an H-E-B employee brings the ordered groceries to the customer.

Presently, there are six curbside specialty parking spaces available, but will eventually expand to 12 once the store determines the service's shopping patterns for new and old customers. To help transition customers into the new service and allocated parking spaces, H-E-B staff have been handing out flyers explaining the changes.

Service has already started, with four orders placed before the grand opening ceremony began.

“We think this service will pick up a lot of extra customers that haven't previously shopped with us,” Fletcher said.

Beyond of the new curbside service, H-E-B is adding new features, such as the recently opened self-checkout service, and home delivery available starting Sept. 17.
