Standing beneath Big Tex's grin,
I poke another Fletcher's in.
Folks powered their faces with funnel cakes,
It's Texas culture for goodness sake.
Danger waits where roller scream,
Roaring over wooden beams.
With strangers you will beg and sigh,
Hoping the reaper will pass you by.
Fireworks from the ferris wheel,
pure magic above the earth I feel.
Cotton candy tilt-a-whirl,
A cool snap makes our flag unfurl.
Football fans and rowdy steers,
Haute cuisine and Lone Star beer.
Our past and present on display,
Make memories you can store away.
God grant us these days without a care,
As we wonder through this great state fair.
