The kindling in my heart needs stoking,

September's song has finally broken

Her coolness penetrates my being

Starts my inner soul to singing

With coffee, leaf rake, and God on hand

Together we watch this changing land

Spiraling leaves pile at my door

From oak, elm and sycamore

There's a softness in this hazy wind

Welcoming snow geese back again

Indian Summer will make us yearn

To watch the cozy home fires burn

I thank God for past harvest remembered

Feeling the awe of touching September
