The inaugural R. Lowell Thompson Memorial Disc Golf Tournament was held Saturday, June 1 at the Fullerton-Garrity Park in Corsicana.

The Corsicana Lions Club built a nine-hole disc golf course in 2008 with the help of Corsicana Parks and Recreation, which maintains the course for the Lions Club. Construction of the course was the idea of Corsicana Lions Club member Ron Motley.

Last year the club upgraded the course to 18 holes, added a concrete path over a creek and new signage.

“We had a beautiful day,” said Lions Ernest Kauffman, who served as chairman of the event along with Lion Sam Thompson. “It was a great event.”

First place winners were the team of Scoggins and James, who also won the prize for Closest to the Hole. The pair collected $200 in prize money.

The second place winners were Pile and Jones, also winners of the Longest Drive and $100.

K&K Bar-B-Que, owned by local favorites Kamar and Kisha Chambers, provided the food and drinks for the tournament.

Hole sponsors for the event were Jordan Paint & Body, Lowell Dunn, City National Bank, McKee Lumber, Virginia Martin, Housley Insurance, Pack N Mail, Stewart Insurance Agency, French’s Auto, Keller Williams Realty, Navarro Country Abstract Co., Vicki and James Bennett, Marsha Banks, Hometown Pharmacy, Dr. Witten, First Eye Care - Ron Redder, Hanks Insurance Group, Gilfillan and the Thompson Family.
