The Corsicana/Navarro County Texas Tech Alumni Association is proud to recognize Abby Harlan and Brynne Janecka, both from Corsicana High School, along with Brady Miller of Blooming Grove High School and Sydney Cadena of Rice High School for 2019 Texas Tech Scholarships.

These awards are presented by the local alumni each year to deserving students from Navarro County. These four graduates will attend Texas Tech University in the fall with financial and other support of alumni from our area.

Harlan is the daughter of Billy and Lori Harlan of Corsicana. She has a strong academic and community service background with participation in the National Honor Society, student council, varsity volleyball captain, varsity track, Special Olympics, YMCA Mentor, church youth group and other organizations. Abby was in the top 10% of her graduating class and inducted into the honor society Phi Theta Kappa. She plans on arriving in Lubbock in time to participate in Fall Rush and looks forward to continuing her focus in scholastics and extracurricular involvement. While at Texas Tech, she plans to get her undergraduate degree and enter the nursing program to allow her to reach her goal to become a pediatric nurse practitioner.

Janecka is the daughter of Scott and Christina Janecka of Corsicana. While attending Corsicana High School, she was participated in many activities. In the community, she was active in peer coaching, Special Olympics, Salvation Army as a bell ringer, and worked in the church nursery. In school, she participated in varsity golf, National Honor Society, student council, and FCA. Cheering for the CHS varsity cheer squad was a big focus while continuing to excel academically in her classes at the high school as well as Navarro College. Brynne worked hard and was recently selected for the all-girl cheer squad at Texas Tech so she will be able to continue her passion for cheerleading this fall in Lubbock. She plans to obtain a degree in Psychology.

Miller is the son of Lance and Rhonda Miller of Blooming Grove. He graduated from Blooming Grove High School and was active in National Honor Society, FCCLA, FFA officer and junior class officer. Outside of school he has been active in many other civic activities including 4-H Shotgun Club, Ennis Clay Target team, and also made the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America in 2017. Brady is currently a member of the volunteer fire department in Blooming Grove and is very active in his church. He will work toward a degree in chemistry from Texas Tech in preparation for pre-medical track that will have him ready for medical school in the future. Brady believes the field of medicine will let him give back to others.

Cadena is the daughter of Shanna and David Lopez of Corsicana. She is a graduate of Rice High School ranked in the top ten seniors of her graduating class. She has been active in the National Honor Society, FFA officer, FCA, and varsity volley, basketball and softball team captain. Sydney was a little league volunteer, Salvation Army volunteer, and participated in Christmas Tree Angels. Sydney will study nursing and work toward admission to the Texas Tech Health Science Center nursing program which is one of the most respected in the region.
