A man was killed in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 45 early Saturday morning, according to a report released by Sgt. Kenneth Authier of the Texas Highway Patrol.

Manuel Guerrero, 22, of Leon County was traveling northbound on I-45 within the Rice city limits at the time of the accident — about 2:25 a.m. that morning.

According to the report, Guerrero’s 1992 Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck drifted off the roadway, into the median between the service road on the east and the interstate. The truck went into a slide and struck a bridge support with the driver’s side of the vehicle.

The accident occurred at milepost 238 and the driver was killed due to impact, according to the report.

Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Vicki Gray performed the inquest, pronouncing Guerrero dead at the scene about 3:16 a.m.

Highway Patrol Trooper Philip Stambaugh was the lead investigator at the scene. He was assisted by Trooper Jeff Taylor, Trooper Ryan Etzler, Trooper Dane Baker, Corsicana Fire and Rescue, the Rice Police Department and the Rice Volunteer Fire Department.
