Five graduate from Lee School of Choice

Four of the five students that recently graduated from Lee School of Choice were on hand Thursday night at the CISD school board meeting. Tommy Hall, Jessica Oliver, Magen Bowman and Alvedo Diaz graduated with CHS diplomas and can walk in the May commencement.



New Director of Special Education named

Collins Middle School’s Assistant Principal Susan Keene was appointed by the board to serve as CISD’s new director of special education. Keene will step down from her current post to assume her new role.

Changing trends

CISD’s Danzell Lee delivered a power-point presentation that shocked many in attendance at the board meeting. A downward trend in student populations of both White and African-American students was evident from 1991-2005. The dramatic increase in Hispanic students, coupled with the number of economically disadvantaged students on the rise lifted a few eyebrows.



Development day slated

The next professional development day for CISD will be Jan. 3, 2006. The day is for all students in grades 6-12 and includes faculty and provides educators and students new techniques.

New campus plans

Updates for the campus improvement plans for both Collins middle school and Drane Intermediate were passed. Some of the changes for both schools included letters to be mailed of each schools status, additions of a technical assistance provider, school improvement specialist and LEA technical assistance and support.



Tutorial updates

Deputy Superintendent Sherrye Dotson outlined the new tutorial plans in effect for all CISD schools. An experimental program, which would allow high school students faring well academically to leave campus 30 minutes early on Friday’s as well as a longer lunch, will be tried.
