Ryan Douglas won the GOP primary for Navarro County Treasurer on March 4.

For County Treasurer, there was an upset as incumbent Frank Hull was defeated by just over 100 votes by Ryan Douglas, a part-time clerk in the treasurer’s office. That vote was 2,095 to 1,983, or 51.3 percent to 48.6 percent in favor of the challenger Douglas.

Hull sent Douglas a text message of congratulations election night.

“Congrats to Ryan,” Hull said when reached by phone. “I’m sure he’ll do a good job for the county.”

Douglas was watching the results with family and friends Tuesday night.

“Basically, I want to thank all my supporters,” Douglas said. “I’m so grateful I won, and I really just want to thank them for their vote.”

No Democrats ran for treasurer, so Douglas will assume the job on Jan. 1 of next year. In the meantime, he is a clerk working for the man he’ll replace for the next nine months.

“That’s been running through my head for the last half hour,” Douglas said. “I’m not sure what’s going to happen.”
