A food drive to help out Navarro County Food Pantry will be held through April, sponsored by the Shakers and Scrapers Car Club. Non-perishable foods may be brought to the cruise-ins which are held from 6:30 to 10 p.m. the second Friday of each month at Chicken Express, 1813 W. Seventh Ave.



Disaster Action Team (DAT) members are the first American Red Cross volunteers on the scene of a disaster. DAT responds to alerts from local fire departments to give support to victims including assistance in obtaining immediate shelter, clothing and food. Training for DAT members is free; local meetings are monthly. Adopt a Soldier is a project for individuals, families or groups. Choose a name (or names) and send a letter or package at least once a month to your adopted service member. Possible care package items are non-perishable snacks, handy wipes, lip balm, CDs, DVDs, books, toiletry items, photos, etc. To adopt a service member, contact Alberto Guzman at aguzman@redcrossdallas.org.

If you are interested in serving your community through teaching CPR and first aid or a baby-sitting safety class, volunteer instructors are being sought to instruct these life-saving skills in a local community setting. American Red Cross Dallas Area Chapter, which includes the Corsicana branch, needs knitters, crocheters and sewers to produce much-needed items for Parkland Hospital, Children’s Medical Center and the U.S. Armed Forces. United Way wants to hear from Navarro County residents. If you have an interest in employment, youth, seniors, housing, mental health, transportation, health, education, crime or substance abuse in Navarro County, join a focus group.
