Local independent auto enthusiasts, “The Un-Club,” had a car show and food drive at Gilfillan Hardware in Corsicana on Oct. 16. to benefit Navarro County Food Pantry.

This is the second year the enthusiasts have had shows to help the Food Pantry with donations brought in by the public who came to view the “cool cars”. The previous event was a great success with over 50 cars and bikes on display. As a result of the show participants and donations it was of great benefit to the Navarro County Food Pantry .

The organizer of these events, Bob Reddish, reported that this year there were 61 vehicles and five bikes on show, brought in by locals from all over Navarro County.

Although the previous event held by the group to benefit the Pantry was considered to be a great success, this month’s was event even more successful.

“This second event brought in roughly twice as much in food as the events held last month,” Reddish said.

Door prizes for the “best” vehicles were donated from O’Reilly Auto Parts, Dunn Street Wood Art, Napa Auto Parts, and The Street Shop.

Winner for the “Best of Show” was Mark Lee with his 1970 Duster, previously owned by his father who bought new and gave it to Mark for his first car as a teenager. The “Shop Favorite” winner was Todd Harrison with his 69 Chevelle, which he has owned for 27 years. The winner for “In Progress” was Gary Lacy with his black 32 Ford pick-up which he uses as his regular vehicle. The winner for “Best Bike” was Gary Garrett with his full out custom bike. The prize for “Most Unique” went to Jerry Hopkin’s creme colored 50’s Ford pick-up, which sports a blown flathead, with a fully detailed flathead in the bed of the truck.

Thomas Miles loaned the audio system for music at the event.

The “Un-Club” is planning a similar vehicle show to be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 6. at Napa Auto Parts located on Beaton Street. The public is welcome. There will be free hot chocolate, free coffee and the area will be well lit. Everyone is encouraged to make non-perishable food donations at deposit baskets currently located at Napa, O’Reilly and Gilfillin’s.
