Nov. 2

The Corsicana Rotary Club is sponsoring a chili fest at the Cook Education Center at Navarro College from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to celebrate the election process on election day. All local officials and candidates have been invited to drop by. Tickets are $6 and are available from any Corsicana Rotary member, or at the door. Everyone is invited for a bowl of chili before or after voting to support this service organization.

Chili’s and Rice Intermediate Middle School are teaming up to help with the tornado recovery costs. From 4 p.m. to closing time, at both the restaurant’s — Corsicana and Ennis —  15 percent of each check will be donated to Rice Intermediate School. Nov. 3

Eureka Crime Watch will hold its regular monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the Eureka United Methodist Church. Special guest will be Mildred ISD Assistant Superintendent Becky Burns. Final plans will be made for the Annual Christmas project. The public is invited to attend. Refreshments will be served.

Nov. 4

Blooming Grove Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. for the November gathering at the fire station with special guest speaker Robert Keathley, who will talk about “The Last Confederate Airman was a Texan.”

Navarro Red Cross will sponsor a Blanket Drive in conjunction with the Nov. 4, monthly Community Blood Drive. New and unused blankets can be dropped off between 12:30 and 6:30 p.m. at the Blood Drive located at Third Ave. and Commerce St., in Corsicana, or at the Red Cross office, located at 701 W. Second Ave., in Corsciana. The blankets will be used to stock the local Red Cross disaster vehicles and distruibuted to victims of house fires, floods, and other disasters occurring in Navarro County. Nov. 6

The Navarro County NAACP will have the Third Annual Freedom Fund Banquet at 7 p.m. The speaker will be Leon Tates, pastor, community leader and columnist. The banquet will be held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, 114 E. Sixth Ave. Special guest honorees will be “unsung heroes” of the community. Tickets will be $20 per person. Angels of Corsicana, 1020 N. Bus. 45 will be meeting at 9 a.m. in Mansfield, Post 624 packing for US Troops for Christmas. Everyone who can help will b welcome and apprecaited. If you have items to donate they can be dropped off at 4 p.m. daily at the American Legion Post 22, located at 632 N. Beaton St., Corsicana. Every year the group makes Christmas stockings and fill them with personal items that solidiers mght want and need. Christmas is near and there is alot to be done. Postage is very expensive when seding items overseas so any donations are greatly appreciated. There will be a free lunch for everyone packing and at 6 p.m. there will be a $10 a person to benefit R2R. Emhouse  Community Center will be holding a fundraiser fish-fry with all the trimmings. The event will begin at 11 a.m. and will continue until all the fish is gone. Raffel tickets will be given out for the prize of a handmade quilt.

Beaton Street Cruise-in and Food Drive will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. in Corsicana at NAPA auto parts at 401 N. Beaton St., Corsicana. Napa Auto Parts will provide free coffee and hot chocolate. Any and all donations of non-perishable food items will benifit the Food Pantry of Navarro County. Bring cars, trucks nd bikes out to the mini-show. Trophies, dorr prizes and music will be a part of the event. Trophies will go to Shop Favorite, Best of Show, Gearhead (unfinished), Teen Award, and Best Bike. The Hubbard Garden Club invites you to attend its fund raising event to be held at the Parish House from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Parish House is located next to saint Alban’s Episcopal Church located on the corner of Maple Street and 5th St. Watch for the signs. Shopping opportunities will abound as many beautiful items donated to the club by Lane’s on Austin Ave. in Waco will be on sale. Come hungry as there will also be a variety of homemade soups and cornbread available for $5 per person. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, located at 2508 West Seventh Ave., Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in any duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.
