Oct. 8

The Kerens Kiwanis Club is having a Homecoming Hamburger Supper from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Kerens Alumni Center in downtown Kerens. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $6 per plate which includes a hamburger or cheeseburger with chips, tea, and a homemade dessert. Proceeds of the supper will go into the Kerens Kiwanis Scholarship Fund. The Kerens Kiwanis award two scholarships each year to high school seniors.

Hope Center is hosting it's First Annual Fundraising Golf Tournament at 1 p.m. at the Corsicana Country Club. The entry fee is $100 per golfer; the tax deductible amount is $70. The entry fee includes golf fees, cart, goody bag, lunch, prizes, closest-to-the-pin prizes on every par 3, new car or trailer for hole-in-one on selected holes, and great snack after the round. Oct. 9

Cause for Paws, a barn-raising event to benefit a new animal shelter, will take place from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Dobbins Crossing, at the intersection of Dobbins and N. 26th St. From noon until 5 p.m. will be a series of family and kid-oriented activities, including a bounce house, vendors, professional pet photographs, and hot dogs. Angels of Corsicana, 1020 N. Bus, 45, are hosting a U.S. Troop Support group and will be gathering items to make care packages to send items to the soldiers. The group will meet at 9 a.m. to begin packing donated items. The group also requests adults and children to write letters to the soldiers, to be sent out in Christmas stockings in November. The Dawson All Star Drill Team will have a BBQ/Auction fundraiser at the Dawson Volunteer Fire Department. The Round Prairie Petersburg Cemetery Association in Kerens will meet at the Goodlow Community Center at 10 a.m. for coffee and donuts. A visit to the cemetery as a group will follow to observe what needs to be done. Following the visit to the cemetery there will be a business meeting at the cemetery, including lunch. Shakers and Scrapers Car Club has moved their monthly cruise night to Whataburger on 7th Ave., starting at 6 p.m. Bring hot rods, muscle cars, sports cars, motorcycles, project cars or anything that rolls. Even those not showing a vehicle can bring donations of nonperishable food items, which will help local families through the many food pantries in Corsicana. The Nathan Carter Campaign will be sponsoring a Spaghetti Dinner/Fundraiser at the MLK Center in Corsicana. The Warehouse Living Arts Center will hold auditions at 3 p.m. for the Corsicana Children's Company's production of “The Christmas Carol Miracle” by Luise Putcamp, Jr., adapted with permission by Taffy Geisel. It is a story about a West Texas town and the miracle that occurred there during a singing competition. The auditions will be at the Warehouse Living Arts Center. The performance dates will be Dec. 2 to 5. Many roles are available for adults of all ages, older teens, and kids ages 7 to 12 and 13 to 15 years old. There is one very specific role which requires a boy who looks at least like a 7 year old; must be able to sing "O Come All Ye Faithful" like an angel, but must also be able to sing it sounding like a squeaky oil derrick. For the audition everyone needs to sing a Christmas Carol and there will also be cold readings from the script. Frances Seidensticker Dodds will be directing. The Republican Party of Navarro County will hold it’s next County Executive Meeting at 7 p.m. at the new RPNV Headquarters located at 111-B W. 3rd Ave., in downtown Corsicana. First Baptist Church in Dawson will be seasonal flu shots will be given at from 10 a.m. to noon. This seasons flu shot will protect against H1N1 virus. The church is located at North 4th and Main Street. There will be no cost for immunizations to Medicare insured who bring a Medicare Card and another form of ID. Non Medicare cost will be $25 per vaccine. Sponsored by the church and Dawson Young at Heart the shots well be administered by Providence Home Health Care of Waco. Cruise-In Food Drive, coordinated by ‘The Un-Club,’ a group of auto enthusiasts, will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, at Gilfillan Hardware Store parking lot, located at 1440 W. 7th Ave. in Corsicana. Any and all donations of non-perishable food items will be collected. There will be two trophies awarded to those who bring out their vehicles to show.
