Meals on Wheels has immediate openings for volunteer drivers. If you have one or two hours to help Monday through Friday, you could help many in need.

In Navarro County, during the month of January, there were 5,891 hot and frozen meals delivered to many that otherwise would have been in need. The average per day is approximately 256. Due to a shortage of volunteer drivers, the office personnel often has to close the office and deliver or many have to call on volunteers that have already delivered that week. Therefore, there is a really big need for volunteer help.

During school breaks and summer, Meals on Wheels has been fortunate to have the National Honor Society students and Calico dance team from Corsicana High School to help with deliveries.

“We are so very proud of these young people for taking time to volunteer,” said Sid Schutte. “My wife and I have been volunteers with Meals on Wheels for 10 years and find it very rewarding. Delivering the meals not only helps those in need, but also gives us so much in return.”

If you would like to volunteer and feel good about helping others in need, call (903) 641-0166 or stop by the Meals on Wheels office, 1805 N. Beaton St., Corsicana, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays.
