Navarro College is reviving its alumni association. Although the organization has been in existence for many years, it has not been active for some time. According to Dr. Tommy Stringer, vice president of institutional advancement at Navarro, there is an interest among ex-students to reconnect with the college. “Alumni” are not limited only to those who actually graduated from Navarro, but to all who define themselves as former students.

By researching old annuals, the college has identified a sizable number of area residents who have ties to the institution, and a significant number of former students have responded to the link on the Navarro College Web site inviting ex-students to submit contact information. Those responses reveal that Navarro has former students literally all over the world.

“We have heard from ex-students who are in Korea, Australia, and Africa, as well as in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Florida, Georgia, Oregon, and Nevada. We have a large number of former students living in the Metroplex and in the Houston area,” Stringer said.

There are also some very impressive success stories from Navarro ex-students who have made their mark in the fields of medicine, law, military service, government service, banking, veterinary medicine, accounting, engineering, pharmacy, education, sports, and various other professions and occupations.

Navarro College is planning special events for Homecoming 2006, which will be held on Oct. 14. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the college, and the hope is to have large numbers of former students on campus to celebrate this milestone in Navarro’s history. Several groups and individuals have already announced their plans to attend the festivities, including athletic teams, performing groups such as choir and band, and dormitory residents.

The Navarro College Alumni Association will be keeping former students informed of college news and activities through newsletters and through the college Web site. Former students interested in the alumni association may contact the Office of Institutional Advancement at (903) 875-7391 or click on the alumni link on the college Web site at
