The Heritage Bowl Board of Directors are pleased to announce the 2019 game will feature the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds vs. the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders on Saturday, Dec. 7 in Corsicana. Kickoff is scheduled for noon at Tiger Stadium in Corsicana.
The Heritage Bowl is brought to you by the Corsicana Visitors’ Bureau, Community National Bank and Trust of Texas and Atmos Energy.
“We are pleased to have another great match up this year, and the teams are excited about coming to play in Corsicana.” said Heritage Bowl Chairman Aric Bonner.
Eastern New Mexico University (7-4) hails from the Lone Star Conference, and boasts Division II’s second-leading rusher in Paul Terry. The senior has rushed for 1,717 yards and 10 touchdowns, including a 233-yard night – on a school record 40 carries, in a 20-17 overtime win over No. 21 Angelo State University.
Coach Kelley Lee has been with the Greyhounds for seven seasons, including the last three as head coach. ENMU is no stranger to traveling, having just wrapped up its regular season with a non-conference 35-27 win over Western Oregon in Monmouth, Oregon. The Greyhounds last bowl appearance came in 2016 at the C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl, when they fell, 45-12.
Southern Arkansas University (8-3) makes its home in the ultra-competitive Great American Conference, with all three losses coming to ranked opponents atop the league. Two of those teams are in the 28-team Division II playoff field. The Muleriders ranked fourth in both scoring offence and defense in the GAC, and junior quarterback Hayden Mallory was second in the conference in passing efficiency. Mallory threw for 2,200 yards and 19 touchdowns, with only eight interceptions. The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders finished their regular season with an 8-3 record. SAU Head Coach Bill Keopple is 65-53 over his 11 seasons at the Magnolia, Arkansas University. The 2019 Heritage Bowl will be the third bowl appearance in the last four seasons for the Muleriders. Southern Arkansas lost to Missouri Western, 30-25, in last year’s Live United Bowl in Texarkana.
Formerly the Corsicana Bowl, the Heritage Bowl, is currently operated by its Board of Directors, under the umbrella of the Corsicana Area Chamber Foundation as a 501(c)3 organization, with plans to continue as a non-profit organization. Each year, the Bowl Committee will select a benefactor to share proceeds from the game. The 2019 benefactor will be the Boys and Girls Club of Navarro County. The Boys & Girls Club of Navarro County will have representatives on hand at the game.
Tickets for the game can be purchased online at www.HeritageBowl.org or on game day, at the gate. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $5 for children 3-12 and children 2 and younger are free.
Parking lots open at 9 a.m. and the gates open at 10 a.m.
“The Tailgate Fanatics Committee has been working hard to make the pre-game experience lots of fun,” Bonner said. Activities include bounce houses, face painting, selfie stations and a Heritage Bowl Midway of games.
“We appreciate all our sponsors who support the Bowl,” Bonner said. “Without them, none of this would be possible.” A complete list of sponsors, tickets, and more can be found at www.HeritageBowl.org. For more information about the Heritage Bowl, contact Joanna Fritz at 903-874-4731.
