Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers were called to a two-vehicle crash on the Interstate 45 overpass of U.S. 287 in Corsicana Thursday afternoon, Sept. 19.
According to DPS reports, the preliminary investigation shows that a 2012 blue Volvo truck tractor towing a 2020 white Utility trailer was traveling south on I-45 in the right lane and a 2016 blue Peterbilt truck tractor towing a 2018 white Great Dane trailer was traveling south in the left lane. For a still undetermined reason, the Volvo truck veered out of its lane to the right, striking a water safety barrier at the 229 exit, then swerved left striking the Peterbilt truck tractor.
The Volvo truck jackknifed, causing the truck tractor and trailer to roll onto its left side coming to rest across the concrete center barrier. The Peterbilt truck also struck the concrete center barrier before veering back to the right and coming to a stop in the right lane.
The driver of the Volvo truck tractor, 35 year-old Darrell Fernandis of Harrison Township, Michigan, was transported by ambulance to Navarro Regional Hospital with possible injuries. The driver of the Peterbilt truck tractor was not injured.
Both south and northbound sides of I-45 were closed until approximately 10 p.m. due to clean up. There was no hazardous material spilled. The investigation is ongoing and there is no other information available at this time.
