Corsicana's YMCA is preparing for its 27th annual Jingle Bell Jog at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. This is the YMCA's largest and most popular fundraiser, with all funds raised going back to the organization for youth program scholarships.
“That money specifically goes to helping give them the funds they need to participate in soccer, basketball, flag football, baseball,” said Lanette Stewart, Fitness Coordinator and event organizer. “We also give scholarships for families who want memberships.”
The Jingle Bell Jog will continue its tradition of donating to the Physical Education program of the school campus with the most student participants. This year, all participants associating themselves with a school campus will be counted.
“It's a community event,” said Thomas Burns, Chief Executive Officer, “Involving families, getting them out here.”
Last year's fun run drew 275 participants, a number Stewart and Burns say they hope will increase this year.
This year's event will begin and end at the YMCA, and now, the course will be an official 5K and a one mile Fun Run. Jingle Bell Jog participants can sign at the YMCA, or on the day of the event. Cost is $50 per family $25 for adults, and $15 for youth.
Corsicana ISD's National Honor Society students, Calicos, cheerleaders, and band, along with VOICE are among those assisting with this year's Jingle Bell Jog.
