I’m staring at the calendar while I write this article, wondering aloud to myself, “Where did the time go?” Honestly, the year 2017 seems to have gone by faster than any other year in my life.
Like any previous year, it was filled with ups and downs, but I’m alive and breathing and for me, that’s another good year. It was also a good year because it was the first year that I got to start the Total Geek Live project with three of my life-long friends.
Let’s look back through the Total Geek looking-glass and talk about the first year of Total Geek Live. How four friends came together with a simple idea of sharing their love for all things geek and how it grew into a project that encompasses digital and print articles, videos in numerous categories, and hours and hours of laughing and growing together.
Total Geek Live started its YouTube channel off with a fun video in March with Guy seeing if Nintendo Switch games taste bad, followed by Danny’s Cosplay Collage video and then the first episode in the Trailer Trashin’ series with Thor: Ragnarok. Who would have thought that those videos would lead TGL to release over 100 more videos before the year’s end?
Included in those are our ‘Cana Geek episodes, where we talk about subjects about Corsicana and growing up in a small town in the 80's and 90's, as well as Totally 19XX, probably TGL’s favorite series, where we go back and review such classics as The Goonies, Saturday Morning Cartoons, and toys that were made to gross out your parents.
To coincide with the YouTube channel, Total Geek Live also launched its website. On there, we have published over 90 written reviews from various subjects of comic books, video games, movies, and more. Why not read about Guy’s take on each and every Star Wars movie? How about Baltimore’s love for the best stories told in the X-men comics? Kaiser did a great review of Netflix’s series: G.L.O.W. – Season 1.
And I wrote a fun review about the video game, Stardew Valley. Please take a look if you haven’t already.
Then there is our weekly column in the Corsicana Daily Sun! The very column that you, dear reader, are reading right this moment! It is a project that all four of us Total Geeks hold dear to our hearts and something we never thought in a million years that we’d actually get to achieve. Our hometown newspaper means a lot to each of us and we hope it does to you too.
Yes, looking back, 2017 will be remembered fondly for us Total Geeks, because it was the first step into our journey together to build something that we could share with the rest of not only Corsicana, but the rest of the world. Spreading the love of everything geek to each and every one. So from all of us here at Total Geek Live, we’d like to thank you for being on this first step of our journey and we hope that you stay along for the ride. We have some exciting things planned, and wouldn’t want you to miss them!
It’s all Geek to Us!
