The Tuesday Aug. 6, edition of the Corsicana Daily Sun carried an article by Guy Chapman titled “Video games can’t be the excuse anymore.”
In the interest of truth and transparency, I’d like to offer that video games COULD be an excuse.
While I’m sure that of and by themselves video games are not the factor in a person’s propensity toward violent behavior, they can be a contributing factor. People learn this violent behavior somewhere. Does an affinity toward violent behavior come from the home environment?, the school environment?, friends environment? movies?, clubs (i.E. KKK), and even video games?, etc.?. Not knowing where the thoughts of violent behavior are rooted is what is going to make it difficult to curb this behavior. But in Mr. Chapman’s defense, we should not jump to the conclusion that video games are the only culprit.
