5-26-18 Memorial Day.jpg

Flags along the highway waved,

In the family car, no sound.

The hearse rolled on with your destiny,

To silent, broken ground.

Some hands rose in stanch remorse,

They knew war took another,

That behind those tinted windows,

Devastated wife and mother.

Who soon would watch the folded flag,

A lowering of final goodbye.

How deep the lasting damage,

When a father cannot cry.

The reasons for Memorial Day,

Are buried across the land.

In numbers incomprehensible,

To fill freedom's vast demand.
