You never know who you might meet on a porch in Corsicana. A few Saturdays ago friends invited Houston and me over for an outdoor cocktail party. I loved the diverse group of guests.

I learned a valuable life skill when I met my husband, Houston, at the University of Georgia. He showed me how to determine if pasta was ready. Spaghetti, specifically, was a staple in Houston’s basement apartment. So it wasn’t surprising that he made it for me when I came over for dinner.

I’ve had a rambling forty-year journey back to the open skies of Texas. Some years ago, I experienced a tumultuous month. I owned a lovely home in Maryland with an upstairs loft, large windows, and a fireplace. My balcony overlooked my quiet neighborhood. Many days, I chatted with my neighbors as we returned from work in the evenings.
