The Kerens Bobcats traveled to Whitney to play the 7th-ranked Crawford Pirates in the first round of the Class 2A DII state playoffs. The Pirates won the bi-district game 49-14.

Sure, Corsicana's Tigers are 1-0 today, winners of their season opener against The Colony.  And 1-0 means a good start, a step toward a good, or maybe even a great season.

But these Tigers won so much more Friday night.

Reece Wright has a career night, scoring 27 points to lead Kerens past Rosebud-Lott in the 2A Area Round playoffs. The LadyCats meet Grapeland Tuesday. 

Rice's Bulldogs got a furious start from Dee Robinson, who scored 15 points in the first quarter to help Rice beat rival Mildred 54-50 in a key District 18-3A game Tuesday at Rice.

Mildred stormed back from a 20-14 first quarter deficit and took a 30-28 halftime lead, but Rice knotted the score at 39 to end the third quarter and outscored Mildred 15-11 over the final eight minutes.

 The Frost Polar Bears clinched a playoff spot with a 28-13 victory Friday night over the Meridian Yellow Jackets

Kerens just keeps moving, on the court and in the playoffs, where the Bobcats raced into the third round of the postseason with a convincing 71-59 victory over Mart in the Class 2A Area Round playoffs Friday night in the Hubbard gym.

Friday night brought a rough end to the Dawson Bulldogs' season, losing to the Bremond Tigers 41-14.
