Corsicana's Tigers emerged again as a track & field power by finishing in the top four in 13 of the 17 events in the District 14-5A track & field meet in Joshua and will send a busload to the Class 5A Area Meet this week.

Three Tigers won district titles and three others took home second in the district meet to lead Corsicana to a third place finish in the team competition, and the Tigers earned berths in this weeks Area Meet in 13 events.

All three of the boys relay teams are headed to the Area Meet on Thursday as the 4x100 team and 4x400 team both took second at the district meet and the 4x200 team finished third.

Gabe Gilfillan won the pole vault title, clearing 15 feet and 6-inches, and Darious Coleman took home the triple jump crown, landing in the pit at the 45-feet, 7-1/2 inch mark, and Coleman was also fourth in the long jump at 20-feet, 8-1/4 inches.

Melvin Martin, who scored 16 points by himself, won the shot put (53-7) and was third in the discus (140-5).

Dominic Ovalle took second in the long jump(21 feet,1/4) and Canon Moore had a huge day, taking second in the triple jump (20 feet, 8-1/4) and second in the 200-meter dash (22.33).

Moore also ran the second leg on the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams. The sprint relay team of Zach Hall, Moore, Daylon Caldwell and Blake Hoffman took second in 43.10, and the 4x200 relay team of Caldwell, Moore,Tyler Farmer and Hall finished third in 1:29.27.

Corsicana's mile relay (4x400) team of Shemar Smith, Jarrell Jennings, Gerado Delgadillo and Hall (yes, Hall ran on all three relays) finished second in 3:31.28.

Jennings was a busy young man. He ran on the mile relay and also took home fourth in the 800 (2:05.54) and fourth in the 3,200 (10:36.86) to qualify for the Area Meet in all three events.

Smith, who ran the first leg on the mile relay, took third in the 400 (50.51) and Caldwell, who ran on two relays, was fourth in the 100. 

"We advanced 13 out of 17 events," Corsicana boys track & field coach Wayne Braziel said. "Everyone competed well, and I was very proud of all ther efforts and accomplishments."

The Corsicana girls team was led by Cortlyn Crawford, who advanced to the Area Meet with a fourth place finish in the 100 and ran on both relay teams that advanced to the Area Meet.

Mariah Lee also ran on both relay teams, and just missed qualifying in the 200.

Crawford ran the anchor leg on the Lady Tigers 4x200 relay team that took third (1:45.96) and Lee ran the anchor leg on the 4x100 team that took fourth to earn a berth at the Area Meet (49.66).

The 4x100 team consisted of Delijah Johnson, Crawford, Saniya Carter and Lee, and the same four girls ran on the 4x200 team with Lee running the second leg and Crawford running the anchor leg.
