It’s no surprise to anyone who follows high school baseball in this part of the state that both Devan Lindsey and Micah Burke were named to the Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 5A All-State baseball team, which was announced Friday evening.

Lindsey and Burke were two of the biggest reasons Corsicana’s Tigers drove their way to the 5A state tournament, becoming the first from CHS since 1958 to reach the state baseball semifinals.

Burke was the Tigers’ ace and an incredible hitter and Gold Glove center fielder, and Lindsey, who was the District 14-5A MVP, was the closer for the Tigers and had a remarkable season in right field and at the plate.

Burke and Lindsey were the Daily Sun’s 2019 Golden Circle Co-MVPS.

Lindsey hit .367 with a .550 slugging percentage and a .958 OPS for the year and was even better in the postseason, where he hit .405 with a .676 slugging percentage and a 1.081 OPS and hit two homers and drove in drove in 10 runs.

He hit three home runs, drove in 24 runs and scored 21 runs for the year.

He also went 5-1 with three saves with a 2.10 ERA on the mound this year.

Burke went 7-2 with a 1.37 ERA for the season, and hit .366 with a .946 OPS. He was remarkable in the playoffs, hitting .500 with a .667 slugging percentage and a 1.217 OPS. He drove in 18 runs and scored 27 runs for the year.

Both players were named to the All-State team as members of the Honorable Mention list.
