Time ran out on the Blooming Grove comeback Friday.

The Lions lost to Dawson 10-9, after the game was called due to a two-hour time limit rule at the Blooming Grove tournament. The Lions scored six runs in the fourth and final inning.

With two outs, the Bulldogs committed their eighth error of the game allowing Michael Ferrell to reach first base on a ground ball to the shortstop. When the ball rolled by the first baseman, Scott Ackley tried to score from third but was tagged out by catcher Carson Nesmith at home.

The Bulldogs (6-1) went through three pitchers in the fourth inning and gave up three hits and had four errors to help keep the Blooming Grove comeback alive.

Zack Edwards (2-0) got the win despite earning the first three runs of the fourth. Before the fourth inning, Edwards had struck out six Lions hitters and earned one run.

Birdville 12, Corsicana 3

The Tigers struggled against Birdville, Friday, in the second day of the Waxahachie tournament.

Corsicana lost to the Class 4A Hawks, 12-3, with pitcher Justise Contreras going five innings while giving up 14 hits and nine earned runs in the loss.

Keith Leerskov hit a home run and Stayton Thomas, who started the game and pitched only one inning, hit a triple. The Tigers offense couldn’t match the bats of Birdville — the Hawks were up 10-2 at the end of the fourth inning.

The Tigers beat Aledo, 10-0, early in Friday’s tournament play. Keith Leerskov pitched six innings and had six strickouts to get the win.

Corsicana plays Terrell today at 2:30 p.m.

Mildred 15, Hill Country Christian 0

Mildred’s Bryan Thomas pitched a no-hitter Friday, striking out seven batters to give the Mildred Eagles the 15-0 victory over Hill Country Christian during the Mildred Round-up.

The Eagles’ Chris Griffin went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and four RBIs. All of the Eagles’ nine batters got a hit.

Mildred (8-0) remains undefeated.
