BG’s Andrew Roberts, seen here in an earlier game, scored 18 points Tuesday against Eustace.

BLOOMING GROVE — In the end, Blooming Grove’s Lions were left stunned and heartbroken, but what’s important now is not what happened Tuesday night in the BG gym, where Eustace edged the Lions 62-58 in overtime in a big District 18-3A showdown.

What’s important now is how Cody Cheek’s Lions respond as they head for the stretch run In a close district race.

There’s still plenty of time and heart left for the Lions, who had an inspiring comeback to send the game to OT.

Eustace made back-to-back 3-pointers in overtime to take a big lead, but Ethan Nors hit a big 3, and Josh Glasco, who led the Lions in the final seconds of regulation, hit a tip-in to make it a 59-58 game, before Eustace put it away with three free throws in the final seconds.

Glasco help send the game to OT when he hit a turn-around jumper to knot things at 49-49 with 55 seconds left in regulation, and then after Andrew Roberts tied it again at 51-51 with a drive with 28 seconds left, Glasco blocked Eustace’s final shot to force overtime.

Andrews had a big game, pouring in 18 points on a night when both defenses were stingy, and Glasco made eight of his 12 points after halftime to lead the Lions in the clutch.

Nors had a huge night on the boards, pulling down 15 rebounds on a night when Eustace spent a lot of time over his back. Nors also scored nine points.

Jalen Coleman scored nine points, including seven in the first quarter when the Lions took a 17-11 lead.

But it wasn’t enough. Eustace put together a 20-point second quarter and took a 31-29 lead to halftime, and then the two teams swapped leads the rest of the night before the Bulldogs escaped with the win.

“It hurts we lost,” said Cheek, whose team is in the playoff hunt in fourth place, just behind Eustace  in the district race. “We have to correct our mistakes and win the games that are in front of us, and hopefully get some help along the way.

“Our mentality is win each day and that won’t change. We need to have good practices the next two days before we go to Palmer.”

BG girls win

Blooming Grove’s Lady Lions picked up a big victory Tuesday, knocking off Eustace 40-33 at home.

Tatierra Pyburn had a huge night, scoring 18 points to lead the way. Tianna Glenn scored six points and Alex Fisher scored five for BG.

Sierra Blades and Audrey Grant scored four points each and Makenzie Black (2) and Kamryn Brown (1) also scored for the Lady Lions.
