Kerens football coach and AD Terrell Harris, seen here during an earlier game, said he knows his team is young, but he likes the fight he sees.

The Kerens Bobcats lost to Class 3A Rio Vista 42-12 Friday night on the road in their final non-district game.

Joshua Brown scored on a 16-yard run and CJ Davis raced 45 yards for a touchdown in the loss.

The Bobcats have a bye week this week and open district play in two weeks against Cross Roads. The bye week should help a young Kerens team that began Friday's game with four starters out with injuries and lost two more starters to injuries Friday.

"We were down four players and we lost two more Friday," said Kerens coach Terrell Harris, whose team is still looking for its first win. "It was definitely tough when we lost two more kids."

Harris knows it's a long season, and he knows better than anyone how young his team is this year. The Bobcats start a freshman at quarterback, four sophomore linemen and a freshman on the line, and two freshmen receivers.

"It's the youngest team I've ever had," Harris said. "I think we will be all right in district. We knew we were going to go through some growing pains but we're getting better day by day."
